We’ve rounded up some of our favorite tips on where to go, what to see, and where to eat while visiting Cozumel. This area is packed with brand stores (Tag Heuer, Diamonds International, Harley Davidson) and fabulous bars/restaurants (Hard Rock café). All three Cozumel cruise ship terminals have wheelchair access. The only public transportation option is the local ferry from Playa del Carmen, which is air-conditioned and runs from the early morning to late at night. Puerta Maya has an abundance of restaurants and shopping available, including a two-story shopping mall. There are over 50 different outlets for shopping, from jewelry to apparel, and 15 stand-alone carts where local merchants sell colorful handmade crafts and souvenirs. For restaurants, there are several options available offering local and international cuisine.

If you want to be more low-key, snag a table around the edge of the restaurant instead of by the bar. The Money Bar Beach Club, located just a few minutes south of the cruise pier, offers just that. Head over and get your fill of food and drink before hanging out on the beach and taking in some of the gorgeous snorkeling right in front of the restaurant.

The Cozumel cruise port is on the Western side of the island, where there happen to be three piers in total. The International Pier is one of the oldest and most-trafficked port areas. It’s about two miles to reach San Miguel, which you can access either on foot with a long walk or take a ten-minute taxi ride from the cruise port terminal. You’ll find food, shopping, and complimentary WiFi beyond the terminal. These days, Cozumel is a major cruise port that welcomes more than 4 million cruise passengers each year and as many as eight ships per day.

One thing I love about cruising is that it gives you a sampling of different places that you can then revisit once you find what you like. You should be well-prepared for a trip to Cozumel as long as you bring lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and some extra cash. If you’re snorkeling, you might want to consider bringing your own gear. You should be able to find some car rental agencies near each of the three ports. Additionally, you might want to book a rental in advance near your port of call.
International Cruise Terminal
You can take time to stroll through the shopping areas and find anything you can think of with “Cozumel” written on it. The sand is white and soft, but just know there isn’t water access. While some caution is advised against walking in Cozumel at night, most visitors have found it safe to do so, especially in San Miguel. The best time to visit Cozumel mostly depends on your preferences for weather and crowd levels. Coba (2 hr, 15 min away), situated in the jungle, sees relatively low tourist traffic due to its remote location.

This is located in Playa Del Carmen rather than on the mainland, so you will have to take a boat-ride there.
